Hello, and happy weekend! Melody here, writing from a pollen-yellow Spring day in Atlanta. This is normally the time of year I’d be announcing my Spring Pop Up Shop, but it’s going to have to wait a few more months. My family is unexpectedly (but excitedly!) moving this season, so all my free time is suddenly… occupied. Hopefully when the dust settles in a couple of months, I’ll be able to revisit my pop up again.
In the meantime, I’m super excited to share my new collection, Best Day Ever! I worked on this collection all through Spring of last year, and I’ve been dying to talk about it. I came into the collection fresh from Quilt Con, where I had heard a few different requests for reprints of older designs. One of the prints I was most excited to revisit was my old Ice Cream pattern from Social in 2019, so I made 4 fresh new colors!
I started the design process in earnest with the Best Day Ever print, wanting to try another landscape (my third!), this time beginning with a race car. Once I figured out what the car was doing, I decided to build a world around it that included as many of my favorite motifs as possible all in one print. By the time that print was finished, I had referenced more than 15 different fabric collections going all the way back to 2011!
A lot of different illustrations came and went as I built out that design, and one of the very last items I added was the typewriter at the top of the rainbow. It was nearly an afterthought. But once a typewriter entered the chat, the obvious move was to bring back that design as well (it’s been years since I last printed it), so I came up with a multitude of new colorways on both cotton and canvas!

This cheerful collection felt like a great moment to add new colorways of my hearts print, so I came up with five new colors. It’s such a fun supporter, and I hope to keep adding it here and there to my collections.
I also still enjoy playing with florals and other supporters. The flowers add a more organic feel to an otherwise pretty structured collection. And speaking of structure, I really love the lattice pattern of my “Diamond Flowers” print. It adds a nice geometric and rather vintage touch to quilts and backings. (I have a vague memory of yellow sheets with a similar pattern in my childhood.)
Moments before I submitted the collection, I remembered an art print that had been really popular at Quilt Con and in my pop up shop afterward–the typewriter floral design I made last year. So I made a panel of 4 extra large floral typewriters on one yard of fabric! In the studio, Meagan made a sewing machine cover with it (the free pattern, Just My Type Machine Cover, will live on www.modafabrics.com). I’m excited to see what people do with this one.
Now I’m off to start cleaning out and packing. It’s not my favorite activity, but it’s a good time of year to be doing it. I’m looking forward to sorting through everything and getting rid of whatever we’ve outgrown or no longer need. Has anyone moved recently? Do you have any tips or tricks? I’m open to all your suggestions!
Wishing you an inspired and creative Spring,
Love this collection Melody!!
So glad to see the typewriter return -- one of my all-time favorites. And the ice cream cones! This is such a happy collection.
